The mid-side (M-S) stereo recording technique puts the center of the soundstage (mid) in one channel and the side information in the other. These mid and side channels can be adjusted and reconfigured to accurately represent a conventional left and right stereo image (on their own, they do not give you a left/right image).

XY Stereo
Forums
XY stereo set-up is a coincidence stereo technique using two cardioid microphones in the same point and angled at 90° to produce a stereo image. Theoretically, the two microphone capsules need to be at exactly the same point in space to avoid any phase problems due to the distance between the capsules.

Widening stereo image.
Forums
Whenever i record, and pan either hard left or hard right. It doesn't sound NEARLY as wide as music i listen to. Even with software synths...Why is this?
I own sm57s and an AKG perception 200, with a firestudio project.
Any help would be great.

Stereo imaging question
Forums
I was just playing around with a stereo imaging tool when I came upon something I don't really understand. When an instrument is dead center, presumably (Correct me if I'm wrong at any point), it sounds dead center because it is playing equal volumes out of each speaker, making the brain perceive it as center.
