Hey guys just wanted to get some opinions from some of you more seasoned recordists out there. I currently have been using a Brent Averill packaged Neve unit and a Drawmer 1960 (tube pre/comp) for my front end. (I use my Allen and Heath Board otherwise) Unfortunally I have to give those pieces back to their owner. I'm looking to either replace the Neve OR upgrade in other areas.

hello right now ive got a Mackie 1604 vlz pro i was looking for a desent preamp upgrade i was thinking of the grace 101 as i have heard good things about it. the pres in the vlz are really my highest quality, please help. my budget is around $500 though more could be scweezed if need be.

Finally upgrading from Cakewalk's Pro Audio 9 to SONAR (I know, I know); & need to make a decision as to whether or not to go with SONAR, or SONAR XL.

The reason I ask is: I will also be picking up (as part of a total PC studio upgrade) Steinberg's Wavelab; & iZotope's Ozone 2, so as to have a decent mastering setup...

I run my studio based on a PT 5.1.1 Mix with 2 ADAT bridges light piped to an Yamaha 02R, complemented with an 01V and some outboard gear from dbx, Lexicon, ART and Digitech. some questions:

a) Do you think that it would be a great quality leap getting rid of the couple (02R + 01V) and going 02R 96k?

I'm just getting started with my little project studio and while I have a PC, It is only a Celeron 667 MHz processor. It has 512 Mb RAM capability but I still think it needs more. My only concern is that the computer is a Hewlitt-Packard assembly-line jobby and I'm skeptical of the prospects of finding a P4 board that is the same size and that will fit into my current housing (tower style).

Back in '94 I owned a pretty good analog 8 track studio. I left the industry for a while and am now going to be building a new studio that I want to be as professional as possible, something to really build upon. By September, I will have about $10,000 to work with.

Just wanted to get an idea of how many Mix users out there are making the HD upgrade. Why, and what are you motivations behind it? Thanks.
