Are you talking about recording your own actual samples, or when you say "make samples" are you referring to a library that has similar sounds to what you are hearing in the music you like?

There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of libraries that contain loads of samples. But you'll probably also need a DAW such as PT, Sonar or Logic to host the libraries you choose so that you can actually do something with them as far as recording music with the samples.

I suggest that you visit any of the hundreds of sample library manufacturer's websites where they almost always provide samples of their "samples".

Forgive me but I'm gonna have to stop typing now, because I think I've used the word "sample" more times in the last 3 paragraphs than I have in my entire life.

If you are a musician, have a midi keyboard, check Native instruments, the komplet package might seem expensive but you get so many virtual instruments, it's worth it.

I actually have a MIDI keyboard and Komplete Elements, but the sounds I want are pretty limited. Is there a particular program you're talking about?

Get Kontakt for a good all around sampler or keys, horns, sound mangling, etc. for beats and fx hits or vocal lines look into Maschine, the hardware/software integration is awesome for chopping and editing on the fly and and both programs run independently or as a plugin inside your daw. I use live or my creative end and love the seemless transition from the hardware mapped to Maschine to using it as a midi controller in live

You might find it useful to buy some construction kits as many of the good ones come with one-shot drums and vocals as well as sample based instruments for Kontakt etc... and VST presets for popular synths such as Massive.

Try Nexus, they have many sound banks you can buy in option, what's cool is when there's a rithmic phrase in the sound (or delay or..) where ever you play on the keyboard, Nexus makes it follow your project's speed !
