Hi everyone. Hope your having a good break if you get one.

I'm buying a new audio card along with some other bits and bobs for the studio.

I'm having a tough time deciding between the Lynx Two and RME HDSP systems.

For now I'm after transparency, low jitter, great conversion, of course all the usual suspects one considers when buying an audio card. Mainly its about DAC for mixing at the moment, but later, I want the expandability to 16 channels into the DAW, and both these cards provide all of the above to a greater or lesser degree.

I'm leaning toward the Lynx two, purely based on hearsay. I haven't the facility to test them, especially A/B.

Any ideas between the two?

Thanks!

I had the same problem, but it didn't last for long.

When I was looking(A few years ago), it came down to simple mechanics. The LynxOne had the I/O options I wanted - All XLR, plus AES/EBU, plus MIDI - AS I WANTED IT! - the RME(At the time, anyway) did not.

Everything I've read says both have oodles of quality - no problem with either. Again, it came down to I/O, for me.

I'm used to Lynx now and have no complaints(Nor greater actual needs), so when I do it again, I will go with the LynxTwo, and if I ever need more I/O, one of the Lynx Aurora's should do nicely......

Still, if the Lynx(Or RME) "fits", wear it! They are both "top drawer".

Cheers guys.

Sound quality is what I'm after. This is the main factor.

TeddyG, I have a four by four channel midi interface, so thats covered. Though I thought it might have been nice if they left midi on the TWO and not removed it!

MistaG, which lynx did you go for?

re: the Aurora, is there anything stopping me from using the expansion on the lynx two card to get 16 more channel I/O using something cheap in the meantime like an eight channel ADAT based breakout box? From what I can gather , the card is capable of doing this...

Me too, on the MIDI(I just do a bit and it was so convenient), though as you know(And I'll find out) a seperate MIDI card is no biggie.

The "which Lynx" is almost solely dependent on how you need to use your I/O. Take some actual time to reflect on this, it's important.

As long as you're asking specific Lynx questions, try the Lynx forum - accessible from the Lynx Main web site! The folks that answer the questions are the exact same folks who design/build and support the things(Along with lots of users)! The Lynx forum is one of the best reasons to own a Lynx...
