I have heard tube pre's described as "starved plate" or "fake tubes" at times... is starving a plate or whatever inside a pre a way to get tube emulation? and if it is a starved plate design will it actually advertise as real tube technology? is this something I need to be cautious of? even if it isn't, I'm still curious, please clear the fog for me
thanks in advance
I believe "Starved Plate" just describes the low-volatge supplie
I believe "Starved Plate" just describes the low-volatge supplied to the tubes. I guess 250Volt power supplies are not cheap, so "pro-sumer" gear will compromise on the Power Supply, and only give the Tube a fraction of it's potential voltage - there by "Starving" it. Tubes are said to sound better at high voltages.
Some cheap tube gear uses a tube in parallel with the Solid State circuit, and these units will still work with the tube COMPLETELY REMOVED!
All I got
