OT: My new room is finally done - And I didn't share here?

Here it is - Designated "Room E" for various and sundry reasons.

Doesn't really photograph well though...

Congratulations! That is a beautiful mastering suite! Just watch out for those termites and splinters and always put your shoes and socks on. I guess you used all that wood because you use a Cedar system to prevent any problems with moths? MASSIVE MASTERING? The room looks good but I wouldn't call it massive?

Go ahead, stay in the closet!

Thanks BT!

Oh, let's see here -

1. Sounds great... VERY even and gloriously neutral. Haven't had it shot yet, but I haven't had to do a single revision since day one... Somewhere around 600 pounds of low end absorption - 21 traps + walls & ceiling. You can stand right in the corner and barely a bump in the lows.

2. A bit of a change - The old room was easy to "flex" with - You could move around and get a different perspective. This room is so "flat" that there are no excuses.

3. The monitors are around 6 feet from the rail on the desk - I know, I know... It looks like a yard in the photos. Must be the lighting...

4. The paneling is 1/4" cedar slats - Each slat is glued over 100% of the surface area and brad-nailed to prevent any resonance or vibration. Not as aromatic as "closet" cedar, but a fresh "woodsy" scent that goes well with vanilla candles and coffee.

5. The loudspeakers are B&W Nautilus 802's

6. The glorious knobby thing is a Crane Song Avocet monitoring controller.

7. The desk is a Sterling Modular "Master Plan D"

8. Yeah, it's not very "massive" - But thanks to all that broadband absorption, it sounds that way. 8-)

Other stuff that's bound to come up -

The floor is floated 4" over slab concret except for where the speakers are - There, the concret comes up all the way to the subfloor/floor. From there, the speakers are sitting on SoundAnchors stands placed on Indian granite slabs. The Bryston 4B sits on a smaller granite square cut from the same slab (I think Tom is a fan of the Bryston/granite combination also).

Power is a dedicated 20A line to the gear, filtered, filtered, filtered. Lighting is on its own circuit - VERY quiet Lutron dimmer modules on two track units (front & back of room).

An oversized & reduced flow air return is over the amp between the cloud and the wall to keep the "gear end" of the room cooler. A smaller return is near the client seating space in the rear "sweet spot."

Uh... The smoke detector is from FirstAlert.

John,

Nice room I am VERY IMPRESSED.

The speakers do look closer in the photo

Yes I like the Bryston 4B Granite combo and have ever since I put my 4B on the slab and noticed a BIG difference in the bass (much tighter)

CONGRATULATIONS and I expect we will be hearing a lot of Grammy award winning CDs coming out soon with your name as Mastering Engineer on them.

Take care and GOOD LISTENING....
