Well I was told I needed a compressor for better sound quality while I am recording music.

Can anyone else help??

Second to maybe only EQ, compression is one of the most popular tools to sculpt audio. And you act like you have never heard of it plug-in form or otherwise. If Reason is recording software, I would be surprised if it didn't already have some compressor plugins.
