I've been recording on this mic for awhile now and I have question the sound of it. There is a certain harshness that I get with the vocals. My chain is NTK-Grace 101-dbx166XL-MOTU 828mk2. I've recently tken the dbx, and the grace out the loop and have been testing the vocals on the MOTU pre's, there is still a little harshness...so that leads to the question of this little (Lift/GRD switch) in the back of the NTK power supply. well ..this is the hardware area of the site and I was just wondering if someone could explain to me how this thing works, what problem can it cause and the overall puropes for it.

thanx

That switch won't help.

How long do you warm up the NTK prior to use? If it's less than 30-60 minutes then wait a little longer and some of the harshness mellows out as the tube gets nice and toasty.

There are some other tubes you can try to tone the edge down on that mic i.e. NOS Telefunken, Mullards etc.
