We run Logic in my studio as well. We run a Motu 2408 kIII w/pci card(not sure which pci card option) Be sure to get a mixer or something with good mic pre's as the 2408 has none! I would guess that a lot of Logic users go with Motu because it's so recommended for compatibility. I guess at my budget level I'd be considered an everyday user.

Again, I'm looking to see what the day to day users of logic are using as an i/o even if its over my budget maybe thats what is needed. It's hard to take advice from a guy who just bought a firebox. Let me know what is doing the job.

What are you looking for? I heard good things about the Onyx series devices. I believe for around $700 you can get an Onyx 400F which looks like what I wished I would have bought.

I run a 2007 MacBook core 2 duo with 2Ghz and 80G HD

I use a PreSonus FireStudio and have had good results for the most part.
Drivers are kind of frustrating. There is some noise in the left channel for some users.

Also there is latency at 44.1k sampling at low buffer settings.
If you can set your buffer as low as 128 and handle running at 96k you get great results.

Track count gets limited with my older machine, but it all depends. Remember the newer machines have many advantages. The new iMac should be fine, if not excellent!

Well what exactly are you having trouble with besides latency that is bugging you? There are a lot of things that go into latency. I'm assuming you have changed the samples rates and bit depth...

But at that clock speed and processor, I can't really see what else is your problem. Are all your drivers there?

I know it's a Mac, but it might be worth checking on.

I will personally vouch for the Presonus stuff. If you are looking to get really serious/already are, RME might have what you are looking for, as well as Lynx systems...

Just getting Logic, I started fiddling around with Mainstage an that is where all my problems arise from. Guitar playing lags enough to notice. Also the Keyboard patches max out the CPU and induce clipping. I guess thats a different issue.

I downloaded the driver for the Mbox 2 pro to allow it to talk to 3rd party software from digi.

I also don't get much out of the Audio MIDI apple utility either. I think the protools unit is a piece of S and a new component is necessary.

In term of sample rates I will typically use 24/48. I don't care enough for 96 or higher.

I the presonus stuff looks great especially that you get that mixer/router software with it. The Mbox doesn't have that (that I know of).

For the record, i'm a serious user but its not a money making business.

Maybe you want to use 24/44.1 unless you're into video and unnecessary resampling?
