For some reason, certain session will not open. This happens randomly. I recorded three songs for a band this past weekend and two of the three session files won't open. I was able to open up one of the backup files for one session, but I ended up losing a few guitar parts. Does anybody know what this is? I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Windows XP, Pro Tools 7.0, I'm recording to an external drive. I think that may have something to do with it.

The first four or five session backup files were corrupted. I just kept going further back until it finally opened up.

I tried opening Pro Tools first, then opening the session. I tried just opening the session. Neither worked.

The corrupted sessions open up completely, to the mix window and then the windows error message pops up where it says "send" or "don't send". A couple of times it has said "Access Violation has occurred". Also, I've gotten the "C+ Virtual runtime library" thing as well.

This is still an ongoing problem. I need help. Very badly.

Tonight I went through every single back up file on a particular session with absolutely no luck. This is really dissapointing and discouraging. Especially when I have people paying me. I'm going to have to give the money back. I still have the audio files, including all of the bad takes. This means I have to go through every file and hope that I can find the right ones.

After Pro Tools loads up, it opens to the Edit window. All of the tracks have a gray tint to them, and the "dyn" button on each track is selected. Pro Tools immediately quits and I get the message that asks if I want to send the error report or not.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Drum Track

Here is one of the songs that is about.. 60 - 70 % finished. I like the song a lot, but it's really dissapointing that I can't fix how loud the vocals are. I can live with everything else.

Thanks

It sounds like your files are being sent to different locations - dynamically (dyn) arrayed? instead of where you instruct them to go when you initially set up a project ( I think this is an option to save storage space)- perhaps you have inadvertently set that up as your default. I think I know the area inside PT that you're dealing with, but I don't have PT in front of me right now. I could be dead wrong - so don't quote or sue me. Its very easy for files to get inside the "audio files" folder that is automatically created. I've learned to be VERY careful when I set up a new project with where I am saving.

I think your quickest solution would be found on the digi website. There's a lot of people who can help you a lot faster. My gut tells me the files aren't corrupt just not able to be accessed without importing from another session's audio.
Try the Digi user conference - they're good people

Whatever you say man...

The waves plugins were something nice to have. The only ones I used were the RComp, Q8, and the RVerb. It's not a huge deal that I don't have them anymore.

Am I not the only guy here who plans on ripping this guy a new one?!?!

Seriously - first you come around and use valuable time from some of our members just to find out that the reason is because of CRACKED PLUGINs??!!!

And then you shrug it off as though it's no big deal.

Consider yourself lucky that I find myself more busy than I can handle right now. You see, so far, over the past 2 years, I've made over $10000 in rewards turning in a@@holes who steal and pirate software.

You don't think it's serious and it's only a few plugins?

Well, gee, I like the way a M50 sounds...I think I'll go take one. It's not hurting anyone since I'm not stealing a bunch of them. It sure sounds better than my stock set of mics too, so there's no harm done.

GET BENT!

(No, not you BenT)

Please, the next time you post here, make sure your hard drive is cleared of all cracked plugins and software. If not, I'll feel compelled to kick some cyber-ass.

Comprende?

Well I'm actually glad he posted here. Might make a good sticky. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if the cracked plugs had fried the session permanently and forced him to give back his fee. (And it shows you how naive I am that I didn't automatically figure out why it occurred to him to remove the plugins to see if he could fix the session.)

I realize there is some legitimate debate about what kind of legal protection intellectual property should get. But even if you think it is OK to violate the current protections in a particular situation - don't you think it's kind of dumb to make a client part of that violation? Isn't it pretty stupid to ask questions on a board populated by a lot of people who...you know...create intellectual property for a living? It's like going to a bankers convention and casually mentioning that you knocked over the First National last month.

If you cant afford the tools you need to be in business, you cant afford to charge for your services.

Its that simple.

Imagine hiring a plumber to fix something major and he charges the going rate and doesnt bring a single tool.....or perhaps decides to steal tools from the truck of a plumber working down the block..........

There is no amount of justification that the poster can put up to explain the reasons "Why".....none.

Dont come here anymore . Thief.

I'm not stealing something that someone else needs to do their job. I'm merely using a copy. That is not taking away from anybody. Either way, there's no way I'm going to be able to buy these anytime soon. It seems like you guys have the wrong idea. I record bands that are friends of mine and I don't charge that much. I'm not hurting anybody by downloading plugins. It's not like I have a lot of money, but I choose to download them because I'm stingy or something. I would absolutely love to buy them, but there's no way I'd be able to anytime soon. I know, I know, I'm a terrible person for downloading and I'm never going to succeed at anything as long as I live. Right? I'm a senior in high school, getting ready to go to college. It's not like I'm some big time engineer.

I can't even form coherent thoughts because your ignorance is causing me blind rage.

If all you do is record friends, why don't you use Waves demo program, or rent Pro Tools plugs (I think might even be on sale this month)? All you need is an iLok, and those only run $35. Ask the bands to pay for the rental of the plugs - very cheap for a band to do.

And holy sh*t, Waves has 20% off sales ALL the time - right now it's for the SSL Bundle. And if you can't afford the nicer bundles, that's what the Native Power Pack is for - give or take $400. Haggle with dealers, if you have to. If you can't afford the necessary tools, you really do need to get out of the game. And if you can't get something decent with the tools that are given to you, you need to check your chops. These plugs aren't going to make your amateur records.

And you are taking away from people. Do you think Waves develops what they have for free? They have people to pay, and the dealers need to make money. It all trickles down, my friend.

Did you steal your computer? Did you steal your Pro Tools? Did you steal the mics and cables? I certainly hope not.

Bottom line, if there's something on the market (anything, be it hard or soft goods) that has a price, and you don't pay ANYTHING, it's stealing.

Oh, and to top it off, cracked software offers no support and can totally corrupt your system. Why take that chance?

Bollocks.

What would you do if the cracks were not available? Presumambly you would look around at other plugs (many of which are as good as the Waves stuff) which might fit better into your budget. Eg; Voxengo, Kjaerhus, Wavearts etc. Therefore you are hurting these guys if not Waves. Sort it out.

I actually appreciate this post a lot. It seems like everybody else just wants to put me down. I didn't even know about renting. I've been recording with a pc for about a year now. Before that I used multitrack recorders. I got into recording with a computer because a guy from around here sort of recruited me because he liked what I was doing. I hadn't even heard of waves before I met him, and he had everything on the computer. I guess I just assumed that most people downloaded stuff. I couldn't believe that people shelled out the cash, unless they were in a big studio.

I apologize if I offended anyone due to my misunderstanding.

Just for the simple fact of defending myself, I'd like to say that my recordings aren't as bad everyone probably thinks they are. They're by no means perfect, but I can say I'm proud of what I've done so far, and I've had a lot of fun doing it. Plus, there aren't any good studios in Delaware anyway.

I'll bet you're wondering where your link went....arent you...

Since you say you're a student living on mom and dad's money, and you've shown absolutely NO REMORSE for using cracked programs (I'm not hurting anyone...........BS) You will no longer be able to post ANY music on here.

I personally take a dim view of anyone doing this kind of thing.

I dont care if you feel picked on and I dont think that being proud of your work is gonna cut you any slack with the pros and semipros on here that shell out their cash to get decent programs for their projects.

So, since this is student-time, heres your lesson.

Learn it. Ya wanna save money on software, buy it from someone whos licensed and is moving up to something else.

Like has been said, the plugs and such dont make your recordings better.

Remember, any post here with a link to music from you will be deleted.

Until you learn the lesson thats being taught here and you come clean with that knowledge.

Actually.. My dad passed away on September 27, 2007. I visited my mom for the first time in five years a couple weeks ago. I'm living with a cousin right now, finishing high school, until I go to college. So NO, I'm not living off of mom and dad's money... I'm not saying that in hopes that I'll make you feel bad, because you probably won't. I can deal with everything that's been said so far, because for the most part, I deserve it. I honestly don't think it's right that you just assume something like that.

Davedog Mon, 04/07/2008 - 21:56

My appologies for any such assumption.

I'm still not allowing you any music posts until you have completely resolved your use of stolen properties.

Trust when I say, there are other sites that you would have gone down as a result of this becoming public knowledge.

Your rep here is a zero currently....lets see if you've become enough of an adult to figure out how to fix this.

Re-read all the posts. It'll give you a clue.
