Hi everyone,

My question: for those of you who have submitted music to music libraries, is it normal for a library to deduct a percentage from the usual payment (50/50 split of license fees) for "administrative and marketing fees"? The library I'm interested in is offering a non-exclusive contract and charges a 10% fee to the payments composers get from them.

A second question (if you care to answer): are there any music libraries you've had great success with (as a composer)? Any you'd suggest staying away from?

I'm really a newbie to this area of the music business and plan to do some more reading and educating of myself before making any decisions.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

same here

Hey there, I'm in the same boat. I have songs that were accepted by two different libraries. One of which sent me the contract, of which I understand very little. It seems strange that they would get 100% publishing rights and I get 100% writer's rights. Is that always the same amount? So we split the overall 50/50? I hear that the 50/50 thing is standard, but I'm still new at it. If you learn anything please let me know! And I'll do the same. My overall concern is loosing the "right" to use my song whenever, however I please during or not during the libraries use of it.

Kaiborg- I'll definitely check out your link as well.

Does anyone have any other good references/experiences that could enlighten me on the subject? Thanks!
