Overall I tend to use the Renaissance stuff over the other Waves as they are more useful (i.e. sound better) in the type of musical applications that i usually work in. There are some specific situations in which the non-Ren stuff is better suited, though. For "therapeutic eq" like severe notching (or creating a radical filter sweep) I'd reach for the Q series. Also, while Ren Reverb is designed to emulate the kind of music-oriented algorithms one would find in an outboard reverb box, TrueVerb is designed to simulate actual acoustic spaces - maybe more useful in such things as Sound FX design or film/video soundtrack work.

depends what you're doing no?...

(correct me if i'm wrong but,)
the renaissance plugs are all physical models of tube gear...and should be used as such..i love the r-comp and ren eq's..don't use the verb though (love the tc megaverb)...

it depends on the application..if i want to compress something with look-ahead attack times..rather than traditional tone shaping..then the renaissance won't do..(that being said, i usually have about half my system running waveshell at a time)
