into a mac pro?
The only catch is i don't want to use the HD program, i just want to use the pro tools 10 with an HD interface.
Or am i missing a step?

I don't have PT HD so I can't be sure if it will work without the card but you are going to want that card anyway because the two work hand in hand. The card gives pro tools hd power to run plugins and track count. Without that, its a joke or incomplete.
Why don't you get pro tools 10 software and choose another interface like a RME UFX? Pro Tools interfaces aren't the greatest anyway. If you don't want or need the acel card, you're far better off going a different route.
PS.
If you are investing in an PT HD system, Buy Used btw. HD is dated and dropping in value fast.
