Does anyone know if the Apogee Big Ben has been released yet, and who is selling them? (Nothing on Mercenary yet)

Opus?

Hey James...welcome to RO!!! (I am "James" too, btw!).

A clock source and A/D conversion are 2 different beasts, but most A/D converters have a clock built into them.

A stand-alone clock usually has better specs, and can sync lots of different devices to the *same* clock source, which is very advantageous when you have several digital devices connected together.

Hope that makes sense!

If anything you should check out the PSX-100 from Apogee...two in two out! Has AES, SPDIF and Optical in and out. Can do Single Wire or Double Wire, can do Digital copying, bit splitting and much much more.

The Rosetta 800 won't be out until July sometime.
No specs on that yet but it's a very decent converter!

Well, I couldn't wait any longer, and saw a GREAT deal on a Lucid Genx6-96 on Ebay. It was pretty much BRAND NEW, and I got such a good deal on it, I really had NO CHOICE!!! :)

I know that Opus and others are going to tell me how much better the Big Ben is, and I am sure you are right, but I had to get something, and this deal came up, and I jumped on it...

I do have a question on how to hook this thing up correctly however. Go to this post:

Thanks!

The Big Ben is a master clock box for word clock distribution.

This puppy has it all..real time format conversion, VSO capabilities(with absolute or percentage values), LTC locking capabilities, 192Khz sampling rate, a virtually unmeasurable jitter level, a clock that is so amazing that any external clock fed into it is cleaned up and sent out as if it were created by the big ben itself.

The box has two AES in and out, Optical in and out, SPDIF in and out, one word clock/video input and 6 word clock outputs.

Word clock output 5&6 can be set to whatever you so desire, 256x clock, 1 x, Fsx2, fs/2 etc etc etc.

This is the master clock box of choice!!

The very first concert I ever saw was The Chamber's Brothers at the amphitheater at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA...Also had Quicksilver Messanger Service, and many others... ahh to be old... :)

With regard to the clock...

I understand that the Apogee clock is a better unit, I am not denying that, and along with the sample rate conversion and all the features, it probably blows away the Lucid...but I just couldn't wait any longer, and I got an almost brand new Lucid clock for just over $400 on Ebay (Genx6-96), it was hard to pass up the deal.

I was desperate I tell ya!!! :)

O.K. Pete. I'll kill you... :D

A band I was in once was holding auditions for bass players.. This guy that was trying out told us, "My dream is to die on stage." :D My buddy Frank told him, "Hey! We've got a gig Saturday night! Come on down and we'll kill you! " hee-heee-heeeee!

I remember being in a "top 40" band (Read = female vocalist & spandex) in the early 80's (I was 20-something), and this old fart of a keyboard player auditioned. He was pretty good, but was just tooooo old. I had to tell him he didn't get the gig because he was too old, and man, he was pissed. Well, he was in his late 30's/early 40's...that sounds young to me now!!! (I'll be 44 in 5 days)
