whenever i'm ready to buy gear i will search ebay and froogle for the cheapest dealer price. then i go to guitar center 10 minutes from me and they always beat the price by 10% of the difference and i buy it from them.
is there a way for me to find stuff even cheaper? any good hidden web sites out there i'm missing? i'm setting up a project studio in my house and i'm buying everything from mics to bass traps to cabeling to outboard gear, etc, etc

also - if you're asking the folks at GC for help (wiring, specs, general gear questions, etc) then you shouldnt be a dick about price-matching. if you make them work, they should make money. and if they make money, they will be more likely to give you super-accurate information and be happier to see you, and hook you up with better prices anyways.
but no - i think what you're doing is the best way to get the best prices.
