Sure, that's an easy compare and contrast...not. An "A-Range" sounds like and "A-Range", there are so many versions of "Neve" stuff, that unless you get a bit more specific about which 'version' you would like to compare, there is damn little point in making the attempt...same with API. Over the 30+ years API has been around, they've had different owners, different names [the current one is 'Audio Products Inc', the first one I was aware of was "Automated Processes Inc.", there was also the 'Datatronics' era...so if you can narrow it down to which era of API you're talking about, then perhaps someone could take a shot.

As for the 'rerelease' put up against the "original", I found a couple of differences, none of which would really keep me from using the 'outboard' module if I wasn't working in a room with a "A-Range" desk. IMHO, the original 'A-Range's were possibly one of the 3 best sounding models of desk ever built...the other 2 being the EMI "TG" series desks, and the API in Kooster's "Record Plant Remote" truck.

I was ordered to act as 'look out' (for insurance executives) as my old boss hurled several buckets of grimey water over his A range, the morning after a bad flood in the control room (it missed the desk) He managed to ruin the desk before they got to the studio....

It was it was starting to rust by the time it was sold to a US buyer.

Studio arson? (packing pipe slowly) mebbe one day I will tell yall about that too.....
