Hello all, if you have advice for me, I'd very much appreciate it. If there are already threads on this, sorry I haven't found them yet.

I purchased (second-hand) the Omega interface, and bought some mics (MXL 990,991). I'm running 10.4.11 on my mac, and have yet to get the required installer to run the Cubase LE that came with the Omega, so I'm using GarageBand.

I've messed around for about a year with mic placements, room choices, and instruments, and while I have a great many questions about sound, recording, mixing, and what not, one thing really bothers me: I listen to the signal through my Omega and it sounds great. Switch that headphone cable over to my mac and GB, sounds like crap (ie no warmth, very dull/quiet, gutless).

Why am I losing so much quality just moving from the Omega to GB? This is a bit broad but thank you for any help.

You are actually comparing the headphone amp in the Omega to the headphone amp built into your Mac. Apples and oranges. If you are comparing the already recorded audio through both then that proves the point further. There is no different quality per se due to Garageband at all. One of the Mac heads will have to explain why Cubase won't install.
