Hi guys, I'm new to this community and to the world of home recording, but I'm an Avid musician and have messed around with programs such as Reason and Cubase. I'm deciding to get serious and will soon purchase a quality DAW for my music.
I also desperately need a good set of monitor speakers, but I don't know where to start. I'm willing to spend up to $1000 for a good set of speakers. I need something with good bass response for thumpy electronic music, but also good highs and mids because I will be recording vocals, violin, guitar, and god knows what else. Is $1000 a resonable amount to spend for a good pair of speakers, or should I be spending more? Any suggestions guys? Please help me out here! Thanks a lot!

Having owned many pairs of monitors myself, and listening to many other speakers in other people's studios; I think that you get what you pay for when it comes to monitors. If that is your budget, then the real task is finding what is best out there for your money. I'm sure you can get something decent, usually the cheaper speakers will not have enough bass, you could consider getting a sub too.
Check out the JBL LSR25 or 28, they make a sub that goes with those. If you can find a pair of the LSR28s, you could probably get away without having the sub. Sub placement is tricky, you'd probably need at least a 300sf room to listen to it in. They don't make these models anymore, but they are decent speakers for the price, you can get them cheaper now used. They don't come by that often. Good luck with it.
