I am in the market for new monitors and I can't make my mind up which ones to get. I have a home studio and have been using KRK V4's and love them, but I want another pair to A/B. I was looking at the Mackie stuff and Genelec. My price range is $600 to $1000. I need a truly great, flat pair for mixing and mastering. Can someone help me?

In my basement/project room I run Quested H108s and a Hafler P4000. Absolutely the most honest speakers, and I've yet to hear any speakers for under $1000/pr (which is what seems to be the price point many manufacturers are aiming at) come close! It just ain't gonna happen. I paid $1600 for mine. Worth every penny.

I think if you listen to these, you get a sense that anything they're telling you is right, right, right. Bass is muddy. Mids poke at you too much. Highs are shrill and "gargly." Whatever it is, these babys show it in all its gruesome detail. Imaging is spot-on and I've never heard some things on my CDs that have been revealed by my Arcam CD player and these speakers!

Whee! Can you tell I love 'em?

HTH!

I have worked for 4 years with Genelecs 1031´s.
I think that is a fantastic and trustable reference.
Today I work with Yamaha MSP 10 (similar to 1031), and I´m totally enthusiastic...
A very very beautiful sound, with more flat response than 1031. (The HF are very "smooth", you can mix for several hours without stress...)

Well, my tip is there:

Yamaha MSP 10.
