Hello all!
I'm new to this forum and I want to reach out to all the pro recording studio s, engineers, producers.
I want to start my own music production company but I don't have a name and I need some ideas. I was also wondering if I need to get a copyright or a trademark for my company. This is all new to me so I want to make sure I'm doing this right. Any info is very much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Hi, welcome to RO.

I'd recommend you contact your local Small Business Administration. They'll help you plan your business and let you know what your state requires to do things on the up-and-up. They'll also be able to tell you what records you need to keep for your bookkeeping.

You know better what kind of image you're trying to project than anyone else. So, coming up with a name will be up to you (recruit friends and family if necessary). Your business name says a lot about your level of professionalism, or level of humor - whatever you think suits you and will attract the right clientele.

After you come up with a name, then you may want to create a logo, or hire a graphic designer to make one for you (which you would have the option to trademark).

That's Step One. [ think about a name that fits, research the name to see who else might be using it - or something similar, decide if you need a logo, write out a business plan, do whatever paperwork your state requires (don't forget the federal govt) ]

There will be plenty of copyright issues to deal with when you're producing music, so getting familiar with the copyright laws at the [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.copyrigh…"]Library of Congress[/]="http://www.copyrigh…"]Library of Congress[/] will be useful. There is info at that link on patents and trademarks too.

Good luck.
