I've been searching, many days now, for the optimal keyboard set-up. Desirous of a Kurzweil Keyboard..
Being new to the techy side of instruments, I'm a bit befuddled. :|

What I understand so far is that separating your actual keyboard, to act as a 'controller',
and use a sound module for sounds/effects is the way to go, especially for upgrading.
ie:
Kurzweil PC1X Keyboard +
Kurzweil PC2R PGM Pro MIDI Sound Module

However, is there any sacrifice going with this set-up as opposed to the Kurzweil K2600 Series Keyboards?

Any help would be appreciated..
Thanks,

Jon

My apologies for my vagueness...
I'm coming from a purely classical background; acoustic piano for the last 14 years.
In between I've studied theory, harmony, counterpoint and composition extensively during these years
and have decided to rejoin this world after 4 years of freelance web page design. (that's my techy side)

Prior to this I played the electric guitar, acoustic and classical as well, during my teenage years in high school.
I mention this part because during that time I acquired a number of items (to my parents demise and to my bliss ;)
that I think will come in useful today:

Amplifier and Speakers:
Gallien Krueger ML/E Micro-Lead 140 watts amplifier
Gallien Krueger 250 ML Mark II
Carvin Full Stack - two cabinets with four 12" Celestion woofers each
(All purchased while washing dishes and painting houses;)

My intentions are to compose music in the vein of film and orchestral, maybe even dance hip hop
techy stuff as well. I just find it all a bit discombobulating...

For instance, when I hear Jan Hammer's Miami Vice Theme, I'm assuming this is purely synthetic sound
derived from these components; modules and synthesizers.
If so, I want sounds that could emulate this.
Or have we reached the point where these sounds are found in K-Mart keyboards?

So I'm genuinely searching for a serious set-up that is top of the line.
And that could marry well with the aforementioned items I possess.

I was impressed after hearing samples of the Garritan Orchestral Strings sounds, even though there's a slight metalic feel to them.
However, I'm in the dark when it comes to how these things work, ie. compatibility,
does one use software in conjunction with all of this? Will the Garritan sounds plugin to the Kurzweil?

I'm grateful for your input.
Thank you,
Jon
