For 5 years I've been using Cubase SX2 with a Pentium 4. Now I have to invest in another computer for my kids, so I think I'm just going to upgrade my studio comp and give my old one to them as it would be more than enough for what they need. I've noticed there isn't too much of a price difference between the i5 processor and the Core 2 Quad Core and was wondering what the difference in performance/compatibility would be.
I'm also thinking of switching over to Sonar 8.5 instead of upgrading to Cubase 5. I will demo them both of course but I have to get the new comp first. Is there anyone out there who has used both of these? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

As far as I know, the i5 runs cooler and with less power than the C2Q, because of the newer and smaller manufacturing process. (They're down to what, 32 nanometres now?)

In terms of performance you might see a small benefit over the quad, I dunno. I'd pick two models around the same price range, and search for a benchmark.
