They should call it M-Visual. I can see the mixer, but can't hear a sound.
Avid has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I recently purchased the M-Audio ProFire 2626. I tried to install it on 4 different computers, all with different operating systems. One of them a Mac and the last one, a Dell with an installed firewire PCI card as recommended. This is not a joke, after all this it still did not install. I contacted Tech support who finally determined that the product was defective. I returned the unit and purchased another M-Audio 2626. After much work my Dell finally recognized the device. My new computer with Windows 7 however, will not work at all after the Avid tech support guy tried to help me install the ProFire 2626 on it. I am a very understanding person and I was just happy to be able to start recording again. Sorry to say, as soon as I tried to actaully record with the device, the playback would distort and go mute. I immediatly contacted Avid tech support rep Fidel Ramos. Only a day after Christmas and Fidel was not pleasant from the start. I told him what was going on and he informed me that he sent an e-mail to me to help me fix the problem. I let Fidel know that I had walked through M-Audio website basics on fixing the problem. Fidel stated "I know but just check the e-mail so you can configure your computer". I let him know that I already had walked through system configure utility if thats what he was talking about. He would not give me a straight answer and kept trying to get me off the phone. I told him that I have one day off because of the holiday, and Avid tech support is only open 9-5 m-f. I am at work during those times, as most people are. Fidel once again would not listen and tried to get me off the line. I then asked "do you have a manager" At that point Fidel hung up. I remember how horrible the customer support from Avid was 15 years ago when I purchased the DIGI 001 and 10 years ago when I baught the DIGI 002. I swore I would never buy another Avid product. I guess technically I didn't because I am taking my ProFire 2626 back to Guitar Center right now. Buyer beware. Avid Does Not Care About Their Customers.

Likely your main cause of problem is the firewire driver. The M-Audio devices don't work with the current firewire drivers stock on Vista and Win7. You will need to go to the device manager and manually change your driver to the OHCI 1394 Complient (Legacy) driver. If this is a laptop it is also likely the onboard firewire port is not sufficient due to shoddy parts from the manufacturer and an Express Card adapter would be required.

I'm not a huge fan of Avid or M-Audio either but they will usually work once the right tricks are applied.

Thanks John

Im using XP. I have a Wibdows 7 computer as well but had more problems with that one. the XP comp has a Firewire card mounted tio the PCI rather than just a single port straight to the motherboard. Any suggestions. What happpens is... after I start up the comp I will play an audio file and it will worjk fine. After about a minute it starts to distort and then cant be heard at all. Im not t5hat computer literate but it almost seems like its conflicting with another audiio driver. Like its a sofware issue. Thanks for the respobnse. The one day I have a day off and intend to call Avid they are closed.
