Well first I want to put my old reel to reel stuff on CD. But I
would like to record my own stuff, one track at a time,
I'm use to a TASCAM 388 but it's hard to maintain cause of it's age.

You can download it from here. It is a free software sequencer, and it works just fine in conjunction with your FireWire 410. It handles up to sixteen audio tracks, so what you need is to open it, create two audio tracks, be sure to activate the FireWire 410 ASIO drivers, connect your old tape machine to the LINE inputs of the FireWire unit, select INPUT 1 and INPUT 2 respectively for the two new audio tracks in Kristal so you get a left and a right, pan the left track out to the left site and the right track to the right side, set your tape machine to play back, and start recording in Kristal. You might have to experiment a little with the output level of your tape machine - and get the hottest signal possible, but DO NOT let it clip.

Try that, it should definitely work.

Hey Oldschool, how do you like your firewire 310 so far? What kind of system are you using it with?

You didn't ask me, but I'll answer anyway-

I've been using my FireWire 410 for a few months now, and I'm extremely pleased. I first installed it with the version 1 drivers included with the installation CD, and it worked fine from the very beginning, no latency, no conflicts, no trouble, no nothing. The computer hasn't crashed once while I've been using my FireWire 410 where anything could be related to this unit - and I'm even recording with an older Dell when I'm on the road, which is quite limited in RAM, harddisk space and processing power.

Especially I like the built in preamps since that means there's no need to carry extra gear with me when tracking outside my apartment. Everything fits into my computer case, laptop, soundcard, microphones, cables and adapters, and it's all good.

So if you don't need more inputs, the FireWire 410 is a great choice.
