hi all
this is my first post here recording.org and i am now in some need of help
i first well tell you a little of what i do as this well help me get my point over
i play keyboards and have done so for about 3 years now
my setup is m-box running pro tools le 7.3
Korg triton rack
motif rack
mpc
88 key keyboard
16 ch desk
tannoy active spekers

tracking via m-box is a bit of a pain - as it only has 2 inputs
also the preamps suck. The software is great easy to use and unlike many i am yet to have my system crash on me, any way i have been getting more and more work as session keyboard play and i now work at 3 diffrent studio here in the uk
its time for me to upgrade my own home studio more outs and better preamps as i am already using pro tools, so do all the studio that i have been working in. i would like to stay with the same sofware but need better preamps so i can colour my sound 1176 ssl x desk real outboard gear comes to mind i dont want to go down the (pro tools HD road) 10k ish is more than i want to spend right
so for my upgrade i desided to go for acoustic tretment first which is nearly finished now.
i have areound 3 to 4k that i can spend
now onto the help i am looking for the 003 per amps are not that much better than the m-box but it dose have ADAT. can i use the ADAT side of things to improve my sound and get to use outboard gear to give me near HD sound ? and if yes plz give a few examples
thanks all sorry for the wall of text

If you want true multi-track recording, you will have to upgrade to an 003. If you do that, then a selection of 8-channel ADAT-output pre-amps are available to give you more headroom and better sound than the Digidesign ones.

However, an interesting first step may be to keep your Mbox a little longer and get an S/PDIF output 2-channel pre-amp for it. The S/PDIF input can be used at the same time as the analog inputs on the Mbox to give you 4-channel recordings. This investment would not be wasted, as it can be used with the 003 as well to give you two extra channels in addition to the 8 via ADAT. Look at the [="http://www.inta-aud…"] Audient Mico[/]="http://www.inta-aud…"] Audient Mico[/] 2-channel pre-amp. The sonic quality of this unit's pre-amps and converters puts the Mbox in the shade, and it's very good value in the UK at around £350.

Bos,
You folks in the UK are very lucky. It seems that Audient is not being sold in the US these days. At least the dealers they list are no longer carrying the Mico. This is indeed a shame, because that is a very powerful little box. I have an LA Audio MPX110 channel strip they made, it's been really great. I was seriously considering the Mico , but when I started shopping it, found that nobody had it. Probably due its whopping $1100 price point...:(

I've just had an automated alert that Scitscat Music in Miami, FL has got new stock of the [="http://cgi.ebay.com…"]Audient Mico[/]="http://cgi.ebay.com…"]Audient Mico[/], with advertised price of $660.

Well, I went to their website (not the e-bay version) to shop it, maybe they haven't updated that. In any case, I e-mailed them and am awaiting their reply. Thanks for the heads up!
I am curious as to why the price was so flipping expensive in the first place. Maybe they changed US distributors and cut out a "middle man" who was gouging the prices...
