To my surprise Avid has already release Pro Tools 10; Wow! Has anyone using Pro Tools made the upgrade yet? If so please let me know how it’s working out. I thought I at least had another month or so to work in 9 seems like just yesterday I upgraded form 8; not that I’m complaining. I think it’s pretty cool that it now allows cross grade users to use 32 bit quality, even though the down side is; if users don’t have adequate disk space you’ll run into problems because it take up 50% more space than the 24 bit. Never the less, the sound cloud and I tunes bounce feature is a great add on from what I’ve been reading. Non the less the coolest feature to me is the clip gain control which would allow me to change the gain on regions without opening the audio sweet window. And the fact that 10 now allows users to have more than one audio sweet plugin open at the same time is about time.

The upgrade is $300 for PT 9 users and $1000 for HD Users. There is a 64 bit version eminent. That doesn't mean this (fiscal) year necessarily but it doesn't rule it out either. I'm betting that it will be spring or summer of 2013 but there is every possibility that it will come out next September. I would hold out. Unless of course you are on an HD rig, in which case, this is your last ProTools upgrade for your system unless you do a hardware exchange over to HDX. They are no longer supporting the older HD Accel cards after this release.

All this being said from what I hear, PT10 is a major update. The audio engine and disc management system has been reworked. Russ Hughes over at Air User Blog(now Pro Tools Expert) seems to love it. Even then it seems that the general consensus is to wait. Something new and better is just around the corner........as it always is with AVID.
