I want to upgrade my Controller. I'm looking at the Mackie Universal, JL Cooper, I have even checked out the Tascam FW-1884. The Tascam looks very cool, but I heard it's had some issues with Cubase SX 2.0. I don't really need the midi/audio interface of the 1884 either. Unless someone said it would be worth it to get rid of my current audio/midi interface and go entirely with the 1884. Otherwise, a good contrller is all I want.
What would you suggest? What companies support their product the best?
My Setup is:
Cubase SX 2.0
Windows XP Pro SP1
1024 ram
Delta 66/Omni soundcard
Midiman Midisport 4x4 interface.

A bit of late input here, but it may be of help to some. I was originally going to do the MAckie control thing - but I ended up buying a Yamaha 01v96 mixer to replace my old 01v's. Beyond just the mixing capabilities, the 01v96 acts as 2 HUI's, and can thus control 16 channels at a time. The 8 user-definable keys allow you to program transport, save/undo and various other DAW functions into the control surface. Quite honestly, for the money, if you're at all thinking of a controller that's going to pass some audio, you may want to think of this guy.

I've had a Tascam FW 1884 for about a month now. Running it on Sonar 2.2 (have a project to finish before I upgrade to 3).
It's incredible. I had an Aardvark DirectPro 2496 before and and a studiomix controller and a USB midi interface. They worked fine, but now I've got more channels, more midi, more mic pre's (and nice ones too), and an awesome controller. Sold all my old stuff.
And if you haven't recorded/mixed with a controller you haven't lived. I'll never use a mouse again (if I can help it).
Anyway - one firewire hookup, and stable low latency drivers (by Frontier, I think), and great performance. Highly recommended.

Personally, I'd go for the Mackie or the Tascam over the Radikal
Personally, I'd go for the Mackie or the Tascam over the Radikal. The Tascam can run Mackie Control emulation mode, or HUI emulation mode, and is a good all-in unit. The Mackie is probably the best solution if you don't need the audio and MIDI. No diss to Opus (who's a long-time bud), but the Radikal has always had issues.
