I am a singer/producer/musician with A PT home studio. My band has almost finished an album and we are preparing to play it live. I am extremely uptight about vocal sound quality and I am looking for some suggestions for vocal equipment for live use. Of course, I will also use this equipment in the studio. Vocally, I am similar to Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) and Maynard (Tool, APC). Therefore, I am very dynamic and at times extremely loud.
Mic Pre: Obviously, I am looking for a mic preamp. I am willing to save the money for high end gear if it will make a difference, but if I am fine with a FMR RNP for $500 then I would rather get something in that price range. If I need to spend $2000, I just need to know what will suit me best for live gigs long term.
Compressor: For vocals I have read rave reviews about the Distressor. That is what I plan on using. Are there any other suggestions.
EQ/Gate/DeEsser and everything else: I have no idea which gear would be good for live use. I am looking for suggestions.
Effects: Eventide Eclipse
Also, do most musicians rent this gear or should I spend the cash to buy it.

How much do you expect to gig? Will you make any money at the gigs? Renting is a good option for a couple of reasons.
1. You only need to spend for each gig.
2. A good rental house will have a lot of experience with what you do and can make appropriate recommendations.
For your style shure Beta 58 or SM58 is what many of the pro s use. Because it handles the dynamics, breaks up well and the proximitay effect will add some heft to the vox.
Mic pres are not typically used for live work. Most people use what ever is in the board. Compressor can be what ever you can afford, sounds good to you and you know how to operate. Use the EQ in the board.
