what next

ok, so i just landed the foot in the door job i've been dying for--client services at Sony NYC. i want to be an assistant engineer. what next? what skills to you need to be up the level of assistant in a big league studio? help, please, cause i have no idea.

and as an aside, i feel really guilty admitting that the system of a down tune "chop suey" is really pretty neat.

Limiter Question

I am a drummer and monitor my drums through headphones. I use a Crown D-75 amplifier, which is a very high quality amp with headphone output. My problem is, even though the amp is very high quality, I keep frying the headphones. The reason is because after I get all gain structure settings set, every once in a while one of the knobs gets turned inadvertently, and the headphones are history.

4x12 Frankenstein and Ohm's Law

I have a Fender Stage 100h and a Crate GX412S cabinet and I'm interested in modifying the cab to be a 2x12. I want to do this to eliminate some excessive low-end Hz from the cab and possibly create a new 2x12 or a set of nearfields. Crate doesn't have any info on the drivers but I know they are 16 ohms each.
I also want to record my amp from the line out to my MOTU 1224.

Q10 dilemma

I was actively considering purchasing two units of Aardvark Q10 interfaces, but ever since I saw some negative posts at other audio forums about Q10 driver's issues, I have slightly developed cold feet. Most people agree that Aardvark's products are great but they are sloppy on writing drivers which create lot of stability and software compatibility problems.
