Without considering all of the hardware implications...
What are the main differences in these programs?
I've heard:
a. CEpro2 has a ton of effects the others don't (at least, not included free)
b. Pro Tools is the "standard" in the industry, but kinda tied to hardware
c. Sonar handles MIDI a LOT better

I know I'm new to this forum, but I have noticed something which I think is very important. I see lots of posts about equipment. This is fine as far as it goes, but equipment does not make a mastering engineer.

I am new here and read a post that indicated that it may be worth waiting 6 months or so to upgrade my audio PC. Could someone lead me to the thread that discusses what is coming up in the near future that is going to make such a big difference in audio PCs? Or if it has not been spelled out, could someone explain what is on the horizon?

I don't know whether anyone else has come up with this idea for this web site but I thought that since the basic topic at this site is sound, it should have a way or system in place to provide sound for examples.

Woods Palmer here. I'd like to introduce myself and offer a little background for your files.

A couple years after highschool I did some time at a school for the recording arts. but upon completion I got sidetracked for the last fifteen years and did not pursue any recording career. However, the dream has smoldered.

Alright, a friend of mine is giving me an Athlon 800 (well for cheap anyway, he has no more room for computers in his apartment) I don't know what the Mobo is yet or the chipsets, etc. But, I need to know what I might run into. I'm upgrading from an Intel PII thingy. Do I want to go with XPpro? Or should I just stick with 98? Where do I go if I have problems with chipsets Etc?

i'm rather new to the world of digital recording...having two learning curves to master:The PC and Sonar xl. i'm running sonarxl w/A7V333MOTHERBOARD, 1gig athlon, win 2000 pro and 528 megs DDR333 SDRAM, Edirol ua-5 sound card. i'm getting good results experimenting with different latency settings, etc. the problem?

i'm rather new to the world of digital recording...having two learning curves to master:The PC and Sonar xl. i'm running sonarxl w/A7V333MOTHERBOARD, 1gig athlon, win 2000 pro and 528 megs DDR333 SDRAM, Edirol ua-5 sound card. i'm getting good results experimenting with different latency settings etc. the problem? it seems I can't stop random clicks and pops from creeping up in the track.
