ACPI vs. . NFG4Audio?
Hey, Opus - Just read a blurb somewhere that claimed that enabling ACPI on XP causes it to share IRQ between audio and video. Don't remember if that was only for onboard audio, sounds kinda wierd anyway - I know you were playing with ACPI the last I heard, any meat to this? Is ACPI a no-no for XP, or has it been working for you?

is this safe?
hi,
I have a pair of tannoy reveal (non-powered) monitors and I am thinking of buying the Alesis RA-150 amps for the tannoys.
the instruction book for the tannoys said the recommended amp power is 50 - 100 W
but the Alesis power output are 150W, is it safe to go past the recommended amp power when hooking up monitor speakers to amps?

I am looking for a mic for general recording purposes. I will use it mainly for recording voice overs and sound effects.
I've heard some good things about Shure sm 58 for its price, any recommendations?
I am looking for mics in the medium-low budget range..
thanks!

More input sensitivity or output gain?
When recording a source I'm constantly trying to figure out how to get the maximum sound level before overdriving my pre. For instance when I stick my u195 in front of my plexi cabinet, I fool with my pre for hours trying to get a good balance between my output gain and input sensitivity. Where's a good starting point?

comparing hardware to plugins
Has anyone out there (here?) had the pleasure of comparing the hardware counterpart to your plugins Which ones and how did they stack up?
What are the closest to the real thing? The UAD? The Powercore? How close to the real thing was it? Does it really sound like a 1176? What's the record for the most question marks in a post?

Anti-Virus/System Cleaning Software?
Hello,
I've heard that certain of these Anti-virus/maintenance pg.'s can interfere w/ your system. Can someone tell me if this Is true and/or which brands are more compatible w/ running audio and if there is a particular way these prog.'s should be configured?
Thanks,

Explanation of a compressor
Not too sure if this post belongs here, but I just thought of something that always gives me trouble when trying to help folks out.
I recently did a couple of live sound gigs for a local band who has decided to bring in a friend of theirs to do sound. They've asked me to come give him a few pointers, as he's being trained "from the ground up." (sounds like a recipe for disaster)
