Do you all listen to the source in isolation? With the tracks/band playing? I don't have a separate control room, and am trying to get better sounds at the mic. What sounds good to me sometimes ends up a bit soft/warm/undefined in the mix. I know experience will help here, but I'm wondering how you all know when you find the sweet spot for an instrument. I'm a musician who is putting together a home studio for demoing and possibly recording a 4 piece rock band. I've never used anything outside of a portable 4-track casette studio by myself, but have spent time in a pro studio recording an album. I got a very nice deal on a PC-based Pro Tools LE system with a digi 001 which I'll be setting up in an insulated, mid-sized basement space.

i'm a newbie starting from zero on a pc with soundblaster. what do you think of the aardvark usb3? Roland SD-90?

Maxtor 40gb-Dual boot win2k(audio) and winxp(internet, school, etc.) I'm using win2k for audio cause my soundcard won't work with xp. :mad:

Can someone explain "normalled"

1. What is fully normalled? what are the pros and cons and how is this used?
2. What is half normalled? what are the pros and cons and how is this used?
3. How is each used respectively and why are pieces normalled and not?

can this be done? i know you can buy switch boxes but are there any problems or implications if i want my mac an pc to use the same monitor. i am finally getting a new mac as a dedicated audio machine but want to keep the trusty pc in the studio for internet/business type stuff.

Give it a listen and tell me what I did wrong...
