Don Gilmore Question.
Anyone out there in LaLa land heard the Hybrid Theory album by Linkin Park? The question I have is on the vocal technique he uses. I hear the lead vox straight up but the backup L/R. If anyone can give me an idea of how he mixes the vocals, lead and backup it would be a sun shiny day in Seattle.

True Tape
Okay... I'm having a hard time finding this out now. Does Cubase VST 24 have "true tape" or is that only on Cubase VST 32?

Mastering in Pro Tools HD
In a 192Khz mastering session, we create by bouncing a 44.1 master file for CD. Besides the tweakhead SRC that Pro Tools offers, what other options would you suggest?

And a BIG negative...chips aren't powerul enough
This is from waves...
"Q: Do Waves plugins need to be updated only to run at higher sample rates?
A: Higher sample rates is the problem, PT HD doubled the sample rate but not the DSP power so any plugin taking more then 50% on your current mix will not work under 96KHZ on the new HD."
So no c4 at 96k folks!
pricing
how do yall deal with yr pricing and payment situations?
example: currently, i'm charging $35/hr recording/editing time [i hate editing]. and then i am charging flat rate for mixing [i haven't been mixing as long as i've been doing tracking, so i take my time to get it right].
i'm only charging $150 per mix [when i recording the thing].

Are there any freelance engineers left? Or have they al
I find it amazing that there are far more studio owners than there are freelance recording engineers and producers. When I tell people that I am an audio engineer, the first question I am asked is "Where is your studio?". I think that this is the real problem in the studio business today. It is driven by the dream of owning a studio, not by the market for studio time.
Help ! DA-88/38 2 questions
1 : I got a guy that comes in to use my equipment 2 days a week...we have an RC-848 for the da-88's/38's. This guy NEVER uses rewind, fast forward or locat, instead he shuttles back and forth using the shuttle wheel...
I am SURE this is not healthy for the machines...am I paranoid?
