Guitar recording mics
I just wonder which mics are good for guitar recording. So, which mic would be the best for a tight, distorted guitar?
I helped some friends recording a demo/CD and we couldn't get a good sound. Right now I can't remember which mics we used, but we want to go over it again.

My mixes. What would have...
...a greater impact on them in my case?
I’m not using any ‘real’ instruments.
a. Having very good (better than I have) preamps or,
b. Would it be more important to get something like the Finalizer or Masterlink.
I compose and produce instrumental music and have done some aired TV work.

EQ Basics
Again, this article originally appeared on RAP. There have been 2 references in the past couple of days to it, so here it is.
30hz super duper low, often referred to as subs up to 60hz These are dangerous frequencies to be playing with.
50hz (hz means cycles per second) super low
100hz pretty low and beefy, easily replicated in a 6" speaker

what would be better?
In your experience what do you feel is better. A DAW with some really nice mic preamps and mixed entirely in the computer. Or a DAW with a bunch of channels of pretty good converters running into a decent (not ssl or neve, more like an MCI or trident 65)analog board avoiding the DAW's mix bus.

Blumlein Pair
Anyone here experimented with using a Blumlein pair to record a drum kit? Or anything for that matter? I just got done reading an article about the Micing technique and it sounds like it should work really well.

Spacially Separating Instruments
I want to be able to spacially arrange instruments in a bigger stereo field.
On many commercial recordings I listen to with headphones, instruments seem to be hovering over my head, or be playing way out there. How are these effects achieved? I know reverb and chorus can help with this.

So, how do I know when my mic's shot?
I realise this is a pretty broad question--I suppose it's specifically referring to my NT-1 and dynamics, but how do you know when it's time to get something repaired in your mic?
Thanks!

warehouse studio
I was thinking of moving into a warehouse/studio/loft here in portland. I had a couple of questions for anyone experienced in this, 1. Is it a good idea, considering i get in a good area and have heat water electric? 2. will i want anymore than 1000 sq ft for a control room, vocal booth, live room, and living quarters? 3. where can i find a lot of listings for warehouses?
Thanks
