New gear help (preamp, mic, etc)

Here’s what I currently own:
RODE NT1A mic
PreSonus FP10 audio/midi firewire interface
Logic Pro 8
Here’s what I’m looking to buy:

About a microphone.
I'm having trouble with an MXL 604 I recently bought. It's squealing (rather audibly) at appx. 14 kHz. I'm relatively sure it's a microphone problem. When I toy with the high pass/pad switch the frequency and loudness of the squeal change.
So a few questions.

Difference in Blue (Green and Red) Mic cables
Well RO,
while I was cruising the web tonight, in addition to cringing at the piracy thread, I came across three different kinds of Blue microphone cables, which ironically are also red and green. I was just curious as to what the difference is, since I need to spend some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket.
blingin'est mics out there?
what microphones LOOK the hottest? all sound characteristics aside, what is a mic you think looks sexy? a few that i have recently discovered with a *bling* factor are:
m-audio sputnik

Mics: SM57 vs. 8900
Hi all,
I just got the SM57 and after recording some samples I noticed I performs like the Shure 8900, so I got both next to each other a put a metronome like 10cms from them, and compared the Waveswhich look pretty much identical.
What type of sounds will help me see the difference ?, is it in front of a amp where I can see a difference ?, any other way to notice it ?

Mics for vocal/guitar recording
Hello there,
I was wondering if anyone can suggest a couple of mics that i can use for recording acoustic guitar and voice at home. Something with good quality but not too expensive. How many do I need? etc.
Thanks

Stereo Micing mount.
I've been looking for stereo Micing mounts.
I just wondered if there's anything that would set this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00080H3FC/?tag=r06fa-20 apart from a more (or less) expensive mount.
And if anybody has any suggestions if otherwise or if they know of anything cheaper.

guitar mic placement
If I have a 4x12 guitar cab in a small very dead vocal-booth type room, I know I will need the standard sm57 on the sweet-spot of the cab speaker, but would putting a condenser at a farther distance and getting the phase right make any difference to the sound?

Audio-Technica AT2050 vs. BLUEBIRD MIC
I'm planning on upgrading my mic which do you think would be better for brighter vocals?..i only have a budjet of 1000 dollars for a mic and a preamp, or just a mic, I'm leaning towards the at2050, but the bluebird is slowly gaining my interest.
