Mic - Preamp - Compressor - Audio Interface (Low Input Signal vs. High Hiss Noise)
HI,
All the while, I recorded my vocal & instruments like guitar directly from the Mics (condenser & dynamic) to the Audio Interface.
M/S with one mic?
I've got one input left on my Firepod to record drums. Found a good sounding room and would like to have a stereo room track.
I have a ribbon that picks up Figure-8 nicely. I've used this ribbon for M/S with an SM57 as mid, and it works nicely after EQ tweaking.
I know I can "try things out" when I get there, but I'd like to be better prepared mentally.

RODE NT4 stereo mic for recording musician strings percussion
Hi
I am a 1 man camera crew! (due to budget constraints)
I want to record some musicians(percussion and-or string-guitar) in a small enclosed space( a music store actually).
I was thinking of simply boom mounting a RODE NT4 stereo mic going straight into my Zoom H6.
Opinions? Would a good cardioid mic be a better choice?
Mics for insects?
I saw a documentary recently featuring close-up camera footage of insects walking on plant leaves, etc. There was sound that I could interpret as originating from the bugs, but how would I know? It actually could have been anything if put together well.

Mastering a song with musical dynamics: ppp to FFF
By dynamics, I mean the type that musicians play, from soft to loud.
So how do I get that rock punch when the track has soft verses and loud choruses? On the chorus it's all good, I just set my compressors, etc., and the meters kick.
But on the verses, it's all below the threshold. Can't lower the threshold on the verses without squashing the loud choruses.
Telephone mic, for telephone effect
Hey all I was just crazing thru Sylvia Massey's site, as I've been researching her recording techniques the past couple days, very interesting interviews w her, but anyway I saw this on a side bar, and I thought it was cool. Probably gonna make one as a "try to learn to solder again" project.

Why do you need to remove your cell from your pocket while mic'ed with wireless pack?
Currently on a corporate show. I ask my clients to take their cells out of their pockets and one guy says "You know, cell phones operate in a higher band than these microphones currently do. It might just be safe to leave them in your pocket with these on". I disagreed with him and still insisted he take it out or shut it off and he said he trusted me. Then I thought, he's right?
