mic for recording bass
Hi all!
I'm saving up for a new microphone for recording bass cabinets and need some advice...I've seen people use all kinds of microphones on the net from ribbon mikes, condenser mikes, dynamic mikes to regular kickdrum mikes. But what would be a good choise for this? A Sennheiser 421? A Shure b52? A combo with a sm57?
Thanks for any advice!

Need Advice on Micing My Acoustic Guitar
I've asked for advice here before on this but this is slightly different. I have a low end Ibanez acoustic with preamp and have been Micing it with an AT3035 (the done away with version of the 2035 from what I understand). I've been recording straight into my Firestudio with the Ibanez' preamp plus recording a few inches from the 3035 with the mic being in between the 12th fret and sound hole.

DR-1 built in mic, left mic has static. Fixable?
I am picking up about -18db static only on the left mic on my Tascam DR-1. I have reset the DR-1, I have re-formatted it, but the static is still there. I have gone to different rooms and it is consistently the same static. Is this fixable?
Neumann U87 alternatives
Hi,
I am planning to set up a small studio. It will be used for working on my own music but also commercially, for recording vocals including voice overs and occasionally instruments. I would probably add some extra mics later, but for start, I want to buy one "credible" mic.

Dynamic mics and 3630 compressor
I've got a 3630 compressor that works great with my AKG C1000 condenser mic but when I use dynamic mics (e.g. CAD D10) I get nothing but hum. The dynamic mics in question all work fine when not run through the compressor. Is there some issue or something I'm neglecting with using dynamic mics?

Shure 55 or other "vintage look" mics for live use
I have to confess that I always looked down my nose a band that use these sort of mics. Obviously you are paying more for the look than the sound (sometimes a lot.) But...my roots band has a new female lead vocalist who has a lot of talent, is good looking, and likes a lot of vintage music.
Jazz and Crooner Microphone Choices
Wish I would've found you guys sooner. Excellent responses and advice from the moderators; nice to have such a supply of recording veterans out there. I've played a lot more than I've recorded and for some reason, I've always been lucky with friends with good mics, and didn't have to invest in much till now.
