compression : to Side-Chain or Not?

I am considering getting the Neve Portico Compressor. It is the only high-end compressor I'll have in my home studio. I was originally considering getting a compressor with a High-Pass filter option or Side-Chain so that I can use the compressor to only compress transients and let the low end on drums and bass come through. But the Portico is a great price for a sound I have always liked.

Phantom Power is a mystery

I was hoping someone could explain why a large diaphragm condsenser mic needing 48v, worked just fine today when I plugged it into an UltraSound AG-50DS4 acoustic amplifier at a music store when the amp is rated as only driving 15v for the XLR input ?

What is going on here ? Is there a problem hidden around the corner ?

Anybody ?

Saffire Pro 26 - Mac Recording Software Options

Hello, first post here.

I recently purchased the saffire pro 26 (love it) and am using it on my PC recording with Sonar 6. However, I am looking to make my setup mobile by purchasing a MacBook. I currently have a 4 space rack with a power conditioner-Saffire-and a 2U drawer. I have never in my 27 years used a Mac and know absolutely nothing about them especially mac software.

Desperately need help buying equipment/ recording solution!

Hey guys,

I need a portable easy to use (no laptop) setup that I can use to record classical performances... Mainly chamber music (2-4 instruments) primarily clarinet and piano.. no orchestras =).

I go to an arts academy and it is essential that I find some way to record myself.

I do not need super high-endequipment either...

Hunting wabbits...and 17v PS's

Umm...not actually hunting wabbits. That's Elmer Fudd's job. My job is tracking down a +/- 17v power supply for a 40 ch. Soundtracs MRX. I spoke with Steve Magalnick, who is pretty much THE US Soundtracs guy, he advised me to pick up a few Power One supplies (48v 1A and 24v 2A and +/-17v 3A per leg) and wire them up in a box.
