As I put my list of equipment preamps, compressors channel strips, etc., together I have assumed that for any decent stereo work I need two channels. For example, I'm looking at the UA 2-610.
This is mostly for acoustic guitar and vocals with drums, bass, and keys going in directly.

I recently ordered a grace 101 preamp from sam ash (there is no distributor here in holland, and it was relatively cheap, especially considering the euro/dollar exchange)

Anyone listened to the vocals on "five for fighting". Of course this is where the stiff ol purists are going to go off about voice, mic, pre, bla bla bla ... But there's more in that vocal sound, it's lo mids are saturated to bursting. You can hear the difference on a few of the tracks that have no saturation.

I just got an opportunity to buy an ENSONIQ DP4 but I'm not so sure about it. I know it was a great device in the past but is it still a good way to go or is it an obsolete piece of museum ? Any recomendations you have I'll be deeply thankful.

just reading a long article about Soundfonts. Does anyone in here use them? They sound simple in nature, and are pretty sweet. I would love to be able to import soundfonts into my Motif, but I think they are limited to softsynths...

I am a wannabe music composer. I plan to do all my songs using PC. I plan to get a M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard and a Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones. Later, I would get a M-Audio Oxygen 8 MIDI controller.

(Btw., please tell me which mic is good for male vocal recording: Shure SM-57? Anything cheaper than that?)
