Tascam da-38 audio transfer
Hi everyone, i do not know where to post this question so if it is off topic, please forgive me.
I have a few tapes that were recorded on DA-38 machines, i want to transfer this audio information to wav or aif files.
Does anyone know of anyone in the NYC area who does work like this, or even a place that I can ship them too?

Event TR-6
after much thought, i've narrowed my monitor search down to the event tr-6 monitors. at $399US...does anyone have any opinions on these. am i making a good choice, or is their other monitors in this price range you would strongly recommend more then these. (keep in mind i can't afford to save any longer as i need them for a project asap) so this price range would be most suitable) thanks

extreme ear fatigue with new Yamaha MSP5
i recently purchased a pair of MSP5A's. now i was so excited to finally have a pair of decent monitors, as before i was using a very consumer-oriented Klipsch Promedia 2.1.
However, it has only been the second day and I don't even want to listen to them anymore.

The desert island question
So you're stuck on a desert island that happens to have a magic room that sounds great with anything, a fully stocked mic closet, and a 2 channel recorder with no pres.
What 2 channel pre would you choose, and why?
(I'm looking for a 2 channel pre, and thought this would be an entertaining way of asking.)
What I'm looking at:

Powercore Virus/Pro Tools crash
Hi
I'm using Pro Tools LE digi002 with a powercore firewire for DSP (fxpansion rtas wrapper allows access to VSTs).
Things seem generally compatible except for:
1. changing parameters in some reverbs during playback causes a powercore crash
2. when access virus is included in the vst to rtas wrappers, then Pro Tools stops working.

guitar plugin question
does anyone know of any good plugins for making a DI guitar sound mic'd? is there any plugins that control stereo imaging? I just want to push the guitar back in my mix, it sounds way to up front. reverbs help on clean tone but sound like crap with heavy distortion. I live in an apartment building so Micing a cabinet is not an option.
thanks in advance

Is this a cabling issue?
in my studio, which is a modest home-studio setup, i'm seeing something common through all the recordings/mixes: there's is a definite loss in high-end .
i'm wondering if this is due to the cabling, which is old and was not layed down under proper guidance etc. could the high-endloss be due to inductive reactance of the cables?
