AT 4033 vs?
Forums
Hi all
I have a tiny evergrowing home studio that could need some good mikes other than my SM57, C3000 and MK219.
I could really use a stereo set of mikes for Micing a piano, overheads or basic location recording.

Mixing on purpose
Forums
I should say right up front, that I am a rank amateur when it comes to mixing. I recently read a great book on mixing called "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" by Bobby Owsinski.

Help: SPL vs distance ?
Forums
Sigh.. thought I knew this:
Speaker system rated 130 dB SPL at 1 meter (Mackie SA1521).
As we move away from the speaker, SPL drops by inverse square law.
Uh... 6dB each 2x distance? or was it 3 dB POWER each 2x?
Darn! I need to know this quick. THANKS!
Example: at 2,4,8,16 (What's the SPL at 16 meters?)

CD/CD-R player are folks using in their Studios
Forums
Have you folks standardised on a good "reference" CD transport/DAC combination or one CD player to handle CD repro in your studio?
I've been searching for the ultimate in CD reproduction and have decided to go for the Apogee Mini-DAC product. Anyone have some strong recommendations for the transport + Coax digital cable?
fed up with digital performer...any ideas?
Forums
I used to post at RO a lot when I got my studio up and running thanks to everyone here. After about a year I’ve reached a point where I almost hate DP. It is one of the most unstable programs i've ever used.

Can I use a Home Theater Receiver instead of ProAudio AMP?
Forums
I'm about to purchase a Samson servo 120 amp to power my Samson Resolv65 home studio monitors.
I thought it might be smarter for me to purchase a Home Theater Receiver that can also be used to listen to radio & connect it to my Home Stereo system. (just kicking ideas around before I buy)
Logic Pro 6 using old AW8 as DAE
Forums
Ok,
if you're familiar with logic, you probably know exactly why i'm asking this.
how can you use the Audiowerk8 interface as a DAE device, so that you can have a few extra in's and outs along with the core audio device? i know it can be done.

Mix compression rules!
Forums
Any clever comments on this?
A lot of time i get the advice from Master engineers that i should leave master compression all together when mixing.
This makes me wonder if any Master engineer ever done a pop mix(Not jazz, classical etc.)
Have they ever heard what compression can do to a mix/balance if applied heavily on a downmix?
