best way to spend $10k

after considering my options for setting up a home studio, and being the kind of person not satisfied with anything dodgy, i've decided that i'm never going to be able to track drums on my budget, seeing as i love the sound of tape, and that most of the drum setups i do at work involve 16 mics. i figure the best option is to spend about $10k on a pro tools rig.

Control 24 or Sony DmxR100

I have a chance to get a great deal on one of these, but I am kind of torn. I mean yeah the Sony would be more compatible with other formats instead of the tdm control 24, but this is for an expansion to the studio, which already is using DP3, so we are trying to get a pro tools rig. So I am at a crossroads. So many people are telling me the Sony, the Sony the Sony..

Hello i'm new. need some help fixing a bad kick recording

I love this place already!

i'm in the process of recording my rock band "Blue Statik." i'm still constructing my studio in an unfortunaltely small 300 sq ft. (L-shape) storage unit.

ok here's my situation, one song we did, we thought we'd experiment, and mic the kick from just to the side of the front... just next to hammer.

. i know it was retarted.

Compression using spaced pair technique - channel insert?

If I am recording using a spaced pair Micing setup and I want light compression on both mics, would the serious studio engineer use two seperate compressors as inserts on two seperate channels on the mixing desk or are there compressors out there capable of dealing with two inputs and which have two outputs?
