What's a good and reasonably priced (new or used) 4-ch. instument direct-box? I would be hooking it up to a transformer-balanced mic preamps on a console on a regular basis.

I havent been here in a while, hope you are all well
I have a few questions I hope you can help me with.
I curently have a stable 001 set up and can record 13 tracks at atime with an ADAT for extra inputs via the light pipe. I get 32 tracks of audio and never use midi asside from my 2 Motor Mixes.

If you were given a $4000 budget to equip a home studio, what would you buy? The client? a one-person song-writer who plays guitar, keys and sings. Uses a drum machine.

My goal is to see what "state-of-the-srt" is for home recording now.

I've looking to get my good mic preamp for rock type stuff. I read some stuff about the Speck and listen to the clips here and really liked what i saw. At the same time, both hear and at GS, it seems like the Great River NV pres are really nice and versatile (though more colored than the Speck I would imagine).

i recently had to re-install Pro Tools onto my drive (due to a virus) and now, when i try to play back files, all i get is a loud static sound. Anybody know what this is and how to fix it? Thanks.

I have an old SPX900 fx; the thing is 16 bit and mono only. So far I've used it only on gigs, ie. my modest home studio relies only on s/w plugins for reverbs and other effects. So the dumb questions:

- say I record some vocals or a guitar part, I'd rather have it dry, so I can dial in the right kind and amount of reverb etc. How do I get the outboard effects inside the computer?

just curious - has any one of you had the opportunity to compare the exact speakers you want to test (but have not bought yet :) ) in the exact same room with the exact same room acousics?

(i am living on this small island called Singapore where no one shop would have questeds, Genelecs and mackies in the same room for customer demo)
