I'm using an Mbox and PowerMac to record ambient sound backgrounds for film. I've been using a pair of Schoeps MK-2 omnis but they are not available for this project.

I'm looking for a cheap alternative. A friend suggested Studio Projects C4s in with omni capsule. The recordings will be done outside (in China and Hawaii) and in large public buildings. This will all be stereo.

I am kinda new on the recording scene and i need some help... I want to basiclly record vocals only at my home i have a Shure MS 58 Microphone but was told i needed a preamp. Would this one do?

Today I decided to try and find the exact amount of latency for my 002 rack converters, and ran into a couple of questions. I sent a stereo track out analog outs 3/4 and returned that to analog ins 3/4 and recorded.

When I was younger (back before I was even a recording noob) I bought 2 Tascam 8 Channel Boards TEAC style from a church. I played with them for a day or 2 then off to ebay they went. I think they had a decent sound but I can't say for certain. Anyone have an opinion of their preamps? Compared to Firepod pre's or entry to mid level external pre's? How about any other older boards?

What am I missing? Right now I'm using Vintech X73i's a UA 1176 and a Distressor into a Rosetta 800 into my Digidesign 002. So far I've only really done acoustic guitar, room mics, and direct bass with good results.
