How do you make the kick drum kick ass?

Drum--tuning---Mic--pre--recording--mixing--eq---compression--gating. Any other special stuff.

Just want to get a thread going on recording and mixing the kick drum.

Have a local deal possibly in the works. anyone have any experience with these? sound? pros/cons?

I have the optical ins and outs connected between my 002 and my rosetta 800 and I'm connecting my outboard pre's and compressors with proco db25-xlrm/xlrf cables. How do I make Pro Tools always recognize the Rosetta as the clocking source?

I’m an old school analog guy making the plunge into the digital world and I’d like your opinions on software. I’ve decided to go with an AppleG5 (old tower), either a 2.0 or 2.5 with 2gb (2x1gb sticks). CompUSA have them in stock at good prices and there giving a copy of Tiger Free with the purchase.

Can someone give me an idea as to how to mix stereo sample. I want to sample some percussion with 3 mics for each instrument, 1 close and 2 overheads (or is that a bad idea). I will be recording about 5 different instrument. What is the best way to mix each sample.

So I'm wondering if there is a preferred method for close Micing in stereo, or if this is commonly done, or if it's a major faux pas.

It seems to me in my reading here and elsewhere that the XY, ORTF, and Bloomingdales configs are usually used for room mics where they are a ways back from the sound source.

I came across this manufacturer of cables, snakes, adaptors, etc. Their prices are ridiculously cheap - like 60% less than even the lower priced companies like Hosa.
