I'm new to the recording game. Okay, okay, I know you've seen too many of these... I know I've read most of them myself (for that I do apologize). However, no matter how basic the replies are after reading them I'm always left with a sense of, HUH??

Is there a post on the dbx 160SL compressor/limiter? I saw one advertised and was surprised on the specs that were given. Is this a dud or workhorse? And does it shine in any particular area such as "great on vocals" or it "handles that kick drum" & etc. Any opinions?

What's mostly used when one tries to sync a delay signal to match the tempo of the song? Is it some form of calculation or midi?

I would really appreciate some suggestions or opinions regarding preamps (and good mics to match with) mentioned above.

Have been working on a Yamaha DM2000 for a few months and totally in love with it...want to get the smaller DM1000 for my project studio. Besides the obvious features differences, has anyone A/B'd them in terms of converters, etc? Yamaha states that there are no differences in signal path, although I know for a fact the pre's are a bit different.

I have seen that the Summit 2BA-221 has been recomended to a couple of people on RO. I'm looking for a good pre for vocals, acoustic instruments, etc. I guess to be my one better, go to preamp for my home recording setup.
Has anyone actually had any experience with this unit?
I would like to know how it compares with RNP, Grace, Eureka and yup maybe even Sebatron . :p:

I'm looking at the 6176 and find it a great idea that you can seperate the compressor and use it with other mic preamps. Are there any other high-end "Combo" / "Channel strip" type units out there that can seperate the compressor?

I'm looking at building a DAW, perhaps a Shuttle XPC-based one. (SN45G-nForce2 with 2500 Barton and 2 IDE drives and lower end VGA-card) My primary concern is the PSU rated for 200W, is this way below acceptable?

I am trying to collaborate on a song with someone without meeting this person. I record via a Roland digital 8 track which has an internal zip drive.
