Compared to stuff by aardvark, motu, the digi002, or rme?

As I put my mobile rig together, I'm looking for suggestions about a good 8ch 1RU mic preamp unit. I have pegged the True Audio unit as a high-endoption, but there are a few boxes in the 500-1K range that look like they'll be reasonable quality wise as well.

I've become curious exactly what the Quad refers to when people talk about the Quad compressor. Google hasn't helped me answer the question. If I had a rack full of distressors, could I emulate a Quad compressor, and if so, how?

I'm new to this incredible forum. I really like this one. I can't wait to do some searches and see what information is avalible. Since I started this topic here I have a couple questions about just getting the cleanest signal from my gear.

I'm looking to upgrade my gear and in the process some people suggested that I also upgrade my converters and interface. A couple guys suggested either a MOTU 828mkII or an RME Multiface. What do you guys suggest? Which is better? Opinionsor other options? Also, I usually record alone and I have just four channels right now, so I won't be needing anything with more than 8 or 10.

i am looking a pair of headphones for tracking and or mixing. i have a gift certificate for circut city and they have the bose triports. i was wondering if they might be a good pair to either mix with (i'm guessing the are probably not) listen to tracks as they are being recorded, or have those who are being recorded use them as they are preforming?
