WinXP re-install and Network
bear with me if the following questions sound obvious (or dumb); that's because i've never done it or seen comprehensive instructions.

How do YOU "fatten" a snare ?
I know that there are several surprising solutions: Some people swear by the gated reverb of an old Yamaha SPX-90, I keep a (noisy) Quadraverb I around for that purpose.
What do you use?
MisterBlue.

Yamaha PM-400 mixer
Hey all. I bought this thing in an antique shop for a hundred bucks a few months ago and haven't used it except to make sure it works. Anyone know when this thing came out? It's eight-channel and looks pretty old. I'm just looking for any info anybody might have on this thing. It sits in my living room and wispers to me, "use me. use me." I will soon enough.
Thanks.

recording outside
last night i was sitting outside playing guitar with my friend. i have a large field, (about and acre with no trees) we were wondering how an acoustic recording would sound if it was done outside. we would be using a DPS 12 recorder with adequate micing. i wanted to know if anyone has done this before, if so, does it sound better than a room since there would be no room sound?

I know that this topic has to some degree been previously discussed and I have searched (and read) previous responses. Please allow me aks this question anyway as it might (?) have a slightly different angle.

Yamaha MR1642 - should I buy this?
Hi! I have not to much time to decide if I'm going to buy this unit. What I'm look for is cheap mixer to start out on - I was going to get a Behringer (bad SP), but then I saw anad for this MR1642 for $120 Canadian. It looks old but high quality, but I'm really not sure at all. Old may just mean sh*tty! (or vintage :) ) It has 16 tracks, four buses, VU meters, lots of sends. I could find.

L1/L2 Ultramaximizer replacement
What options are available which would provide L1/L2 type processing at a low cost as a plug in?
I just want to try some stuff out to see if this type of effect is for me.

Linux soundapps site updated
I've updated the Linux sound & music applications site for March/April 2003. Lots of new additions, a ton of updates (always good to see), and another brief account of my visit to Karlsruhe. The LAD meeting there was very exciting, but you can read more about by visiting the soundapps sites.
They're here:
