I am recording a podcast, and would like to hear everything that is being said through headphones in real time. Here's my setup.

MXL 990 condenser mics into the mic jacks of a Mackie VLZ series mixer. An instrument cable from the out port of the back of the mixer, into the instrument input of a PreSonus firebox. Firewire out of the firebox into the USB port of a macbook.

I've just got myself a mac, some studio monitors and an Apogee Duet 2. I'm just getting started and so many, many things currently confuse the hell out of me (hopefully all will be clear with time though!).

After much testing and online research, I finally found out how to not only make a 5.1 audio file, but also which of the many formats to use. Using SONY Vegas Pro 9.5 to mix 6 separate tracks to a 5.1 AC3 file. then using Audiomuxer to create a videoTS folder.

So i bought a Saffire Pro 24 and was having issues with an express card on my laptop. I think I turned the Pro 24 on and off incorrectly too many times or something and a day later, it won't turn on at all. I know for a fact it isn't the cable. Any ideas if what i did caused that issue, or how to fix it?

Ok, so I've been battling a seemingly simple problem for ages. All I want to do is play bass into ableton, then send the processed signal out to an amp. Right now I have it set up so I run the bass into Ableton through the DI slot on my Mbox, then from a track in there, send that signal out one of the Mbox's output's. The output is run into a Radial X-Amp, then into my amp.

:redface: Ok, so this is probably a real stupid question, but in searching forums, and the net, I haven't found the definitive answer. Is an interface "the" sound-card, generating/translating audio to/from sources, plugins, midi instruments, etc., or do I still need to install an audio/sound-card (would definitely bypass on-board sound) in my PC? Also,...

In Sonar 8.5 (won from recording.org!), say I have 8 or so tracks open of the band.

How would I incorporate a talkback track that ducks out the whole mix?

I am guessing that it would incorporate a compressor on the whole mix that is triggered by the talk?

Is there a generally more accepted method? Thanks!

What are each of these drivers use and why are there options?
Also, I'm confused over what Multi-Channel means with WDM?

Hey guys! This is my first post here!
Yesterday was my first time buying quality recording gear!
I've played in a recording studio with my band, and loved it, but we wanted to be able to demo at home,
so i figured i'd get started. I always loved the idea of being able to record anything i want, from my home.

I have a copy of a tape made on a Lanier LCR-5 that is audible but sounds like only one channel of the 4-channels was copied. I understand that the LCR-5 can make an exact duplicate copy of the oritinal with all four channels intact. Is it possible to separate the four channels and only copy one channel from the original recording?
