I just received my MXL 990 condenser mic from Musicians Friend today and everything looked fine when I unboxed so I went ahead and hooked it up to my mixer. I use a Yamaha MW12CX USB mixer that provides phantom power but I can't get anything to record through my MXL 990. I've never used a mic that requires phantom power so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

I've done a decent bit of recording before (but on an amateur level) with piano, violin, and voice overs. Since I'm going to be applying to colleges soon, I thought that I'd create a music portfolio for my piano playing.

I am trying to set up a pa system with a mixer, eq, compressor, and amp. When I go in and set up the eq and all with just me and a friend in the hall. The sound is bang on. But later, when 100 people show up the sound is horrible. (sounds tinny) Any ideas on how to set this up before hand to counter the 100 people in the room?

I currently have the Fast Track Pro. It's a piece of @#$@. I can't really complain about the recording quality or the hardware itself. It works well on Mac. However, the Windows drivers, and technical support are quite frankly @#$#ed.

So quick question... Do preamps have to be sent through a mixer before an interface or can I go directly from the preamp to the interface without a mixer in-between? :)

Hope this is the correct group to post this question to, but I'm in a bit of a bind. Just recently lost all my recording equipment (microtech gefell m200 pair into a Tascam hd-p2 oade mod), and i need to quickly replace it all.

Have you ever been so frustrated you wanted to pull your own hair out? Because that's how I feel now! :mad:
